Huculs for the Ukrainian President On February 4th, at the Łazienki Park stables, Polish President Bronisław Komorowski surprised Ukrainian head of state Viktor Yanukovych with a valuable gift – two Hucul ponies with a Polish pedigree. Rochacz and Laguna are horses especially selected from a Polish breed to be a good addition to and enrich the Ukrainian breed and to bring about a closer cooperation of Hucul breeders from Poland and Ukraine. For centuries, the Hucul pony has not only enabled communication between the inhabitants of the whole Carpathian Mountains region, but has also played an important role in integrating the Lemkos, Boykos, Hutsuls and the Pogórzanie. Today, Hucul ponies, due to their gentle disposition, are often recommended for therapeutic work with ailing children. . |

13th Journalists' Charity Ball On February 5th at the inner courtyard of the Warsaw University of Technology, the 13th Journalists' Charity Ball gathered over 1,200 guests. The ticket-donations were snapped up by front-page politicians, ministers, MPs, actors, singer and show-biz starlets. The Gala was hosted by Agata Młynarska and Wojciech Jagielski. The musical guest of the evening was Maciej Maleńczuk with the Psychodancing band. In addition to the music, the dancing and the exquisite cuisine provided by Belvedere Catering by Design, the guests had an opportunity to take part in an auction of the works by famous Polish cartoonists: Henryk Sawka, Andrzej Pągowski and Edward Lutczyn. The whole proceeds from this years Ball (270 000 zł) will be spent on extra meals for children in areas that were flooded last year. The money raised at the auction (37 000 zł) will be donated to the renovation of the waiting room at the Oncology Center in Warsaw.

Recipe of the month Veal cutlets with Rémy Martin sauce, cauliflower mousse with orange and a couscous salad Ingredients (serves 4): Preparation: Bring the meat broth to the boil, add rosemary and boil until 1/3 of the liquid has evaporated. Add cognac and bring to the boil. Before serving, add butter to thicken the sauce. Boil the cauliflower in salted water, dry. Bring the cream to the boil, add cauliflower and blend. Grate the scalded orange peel on the cauliflower and squeeze the juice from the rest of the orange to add taste. Boil the couscous. Cut the vegetables into 5 mm cubes and fry on olive oil. At the end of the frying, add chopped garlic. Mix the vegetables with the couscous and add chopped basil. Season to taste.
