New Belvedere garden

On August 26, the efforts to restore the part of the Modernist Garden from the first half of the 20th century in front of the new conservatory lasting since July officially ended.

The new arrangement of space around Belvedere Restaurant was created based on the concept of Prof. Edward Bartman and refers to the prewar period.

Alleys were freed from asphalt, which did not allow the earth and the roots of plants to breathe. It was replaced by mineral surfaces with water permeable layers. The shrubs and diseased trees were thinned, the old trees were exposed, yew trees formed into balls appeared, and in autumn, young magnolia trees will be planted and will bloom in spring 2012.

The garden forms a semicircle around the southern facade of the restaurant building, showing a bed of flowers in its immediate vicinity, enclosed by cut boxwood and a space of lawns open in a southerly direction, crisscrossed by alleys. Both in spring and autumn, the garden will transform its hews with the changing colors of the leaves, but will have a lasting tinge of green in winter thanks to the conifers.

Gravel paths, an irrigation system, trees and bushes subject to intensive care and newly laid
lawns aim to restore the value and beauty of this part of the Museum's Garden.

The restoration works at the Royal Łazienki Museum received a grant from the Ministry of Culture
and National Heritage, which covered the cost of the project only partially. Belvedere Restaurant supported the design and manufacturing activities from the outset, participated in the works and
funded items such as the cost of the closest vicinity of the New Orangery.

We invite you to visit the always regenerating Royal Łazienki Museum Garden and Belvedere Restaurant.

Arabian Horse Days - Poland 2011

The beginning of August in Janów Podlaski is marked by a now traditional festival of Polish Arabian horses, which attracts breeders and enthusiasts from around the world. This year's edition of the Arabian Horse Days took place on August 5-7. The honorary patronage over the 23rd National Show of Pure Blood Arabian Horses was taken up by the President of Poland – Mr. Bronislaw Komorowski, who personally participated in the show.

The Arabian Horse Days is an event unique in every aspect, boasting the longest tradition (over 40 years) and is the only event of this kind in the world. During those days, the attention of breeders and owners of this breed of horses from around the world is focused on the Stud in Janów Podlaski, which, like a Mecca of breeders, attracts both regulars and many new visitors from abroad every year. This unique event, combining elements of Polish history, tradition and cultural heritage, is attended by representatives of the worlds of politics, business and culture, and lovers of the beautiful Arabian horses from across Poland.

The host of the Arabian Horse Days is the Agricultural Property Agency. The most important event of this three-day celebration of Arabian horse lovers is always the Pride of Poland auction. This year, during the 42nd auction, the highest price – 475,000 euro – was fetched by Piacenza – a two-year-old mare from the
stud in Michałów. The second highest price at the auction – 400,000 euro – was paid for Palabra from Janów Podlaski.
In total, the Pride of Poland 2011 sold 23 horses for a total of 1 million 928 thousand euro. The majority – eight horses – were sold to Australia.

Belvedere Catering by Design has traditionally had the pleasure to cater at this very prestigious event.

Unusual weddings at Belvedere

This year's summer is slowly passing and with it ends the wedding season. This year, from May to late August, Belvedere has had the pleasure to cater for 21 large weddings, 3 grand
after-wedding dinners, 1 traditional celebration after the wedding day and 2 unique wedding dinners at the Myśliwiecki Palace and the Old Orangery at the Royal Baths.

A couple from Sweden celebrated their day in an extraordinary fashion – they made their vows on the stage of the Amphitheatre, while the wedding reception at Belvedere Restaurant was graced by the well-known Swedish band John Mork. Another couple threw their party in a specially set up transparent tent, which housed a special dance floor and a stage for the orchestra. Another reception was livened up by a performance of an African drum player.

The wedding reception is a feast of the senses, and food is an essential part of that. This year, Polish cuisine reigned supreme, but in interesting forms and surprising combinations. The culinary surprises offered by Belvedere included such dishes as stuffed goose neck with gooseberry and lamb's lettuce, quail breast smoked in juniper smoke with beetroot and raspberry jelly, pumpkin cream with oranges, a Live Cooking station with roasted roe deer, and a station with a choice of ice desserts.

Despite the renovation of the holiday greenery around the restaurant taking place over the summer, all wedding receptions ended successfully and, most importantly, with the great satisfaction of the young couples.

We invite engaged couples to get acquainted with our offer for the year 2012.

September at the Royal Łazienki Park

From 17 to 25.09 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, the Royal Łazienki Museum and the Warsaw Autumn festival invite all young musicians to the Old Guardhouse for meetings with Melodeusz, as part of the “Little Warsaw Autumn" - the first festival of contemporary music prepared especially for the younger audience. Melodeusz is a circular, colorful object made up of 26 mini players, stimulating children's imagination and senses. The players include fragments of a piece of music to play-assemble oneself. By pressing buttons, kids can play the recorded sounds of instruments in any combination or all at once.

On 13.09 at the Military College building and on 20.09 at the Old Orangery on 6:00 pm, meetings of the "Artists at the Lazienki” cycle will take place – that is, meetings with authors Józef Wilkoń (13.09) and Ewa Braun (20.09), during which the guests will be talking about the work of an artist, the dilemmas of contemporary art as well as the European dimension of culture. The meetings accompany the photo exhibition "Artists of Europe" by Czeslaw Czaplinski.

In September, the Royal Lazienki Museum and the K40 Association invite all poetry lovers to the Old Orangery for the new season of Poetry Salons at Łazienki. The Salons will begin with the cycle "Of great loving", during which we will come into contact with the work of Władysław Broniewski (18.09) and Bolesław Leśmian (25.09). All Salons are held to the accompaniment of guitar by Adam Świtała and Maciej Regulski.

Sommelier recommends

Vintage

The summer is slowly coming to an end. Before us is September – a time of harvest, which is the culmination of the annual work of all vineyards. Good weather and choosing the best moment to start the vintage have a decisive influence on whether the wine will be good or bad. When the grapes ripen, sugar levels rise, but acidity decreases, so the vintage should take place when the balance between these
factors is optimal. Weather also plays an important part: rain at the wrong time carries the risk of mold and water on the bunches during the vintage dilutes the juice in them. In Europe, the beginning of vintage is appointed by local wine authorities.

Despite the development of technology and possibilities of machine (and cheaper) vintage, growers still usually opt for manual vintage. The main reason for this choice is the desire to deliver the grapes to the factory in perfect condition.

In some regions, the time between the vintages of early maturing white varieties and late maturing red varieties can measure even four to six weeks. If the bunches are meant for sweet wine, they are left on the bushes for a longer time in order to achieve sweeter juice. When temperature drops below zero, concentrated juice from frozen grapes is used to produce ice wine.

For the recipe of the month I recommend a late vintage wine - Oremus Tokaji Furmint Late Harvest.
